The final of the HA Holmes League Cup will feature Catfield and Saturday’s semi-final winners MK United.
MK United booked their place with a 2-1 win over a stubborn Yarmouth International. Goals from Brandon Ingram and Roy Coe insured MK United a place in the final on Wednesday, April 6 at the Wellesley.
Catfield, meanwhile, took a giant stride towards the first division championship after running riot at Caister A, winning 25-0.
They moved six points clear at the top after nearest challengers Albion lost 2-0 at home to form side Norfolk n Chance. The visitors will believe that they have a realistic chance of the runners-up spot after picking up numerous points since Christmas.
Bohemians, meanwhile, joined Albion in joint second after a resounding 3-0 win over GY Peelers. Bohemians will also believe they can secure at least second come the end of the season.
The Wiltshire Cup quarter-final replay went the way of GY United after they won 6-3 at Feathers. This sets up a semi-final with the Albion on Mill Lane on April 2 as both teams aim for a place in the league’s showpiece final.
In Division Two the big clash in the league was honours even after a thrilling 2-2 draw between Caister CC and Belton.
Both teams remain clear at the top with the sides still to meet in the league again in April.
Carpathians and Caister Youth also shared the points in a six-goal thriller. Both sides have had mixed fortunes since Christmas and will want to end the season on a positive note.
Wellington FC collected another three points, against South Yarmouth in a 3-1 win. The result moves them clear of the bottom two.
Congratulations goes to South Yarmouth though after they won the league’s club of the month award for February.
MK United Reserves collected three points with a 6-0 win over Martham A. They still sit in fifth but just two points separate Arches in third to Prostar Windows in seventh.
MK will take this confidence into the semi-finals of the Burgess Cup this week as they visit Caister CC with both teams aiming for a place in the April 11 final.
Prostar Windows had to win by three clear goals to progress into the semi-finals as a result of goals scored.
With five minutes to go they were winning 3-1 and pushing for the last goal but were caught out as Arches scored late. It meant although Prostar Windows won 3-2, they went out because of the two goals more Belton scored in the group. This means Belton FC will visit Caister Youth on March 26 in the second semi-final.
On a sad note, the league is disappointed to learn of the fire and vandalism at Gorleston Rec. Due to the damage the league and council have suspended football on the venue for the foreseeable future. Fixtures issued for April and May will now be on Mill Lane or the Magdalen.
The 2011-2012 season forms will be sent to all clubs in the next week. The annual meeting has been set for Tuesday, June 14 at the Pub On The Shrubs and all forms are to be returned by June 5 at the latest.
Would all clubs please note kick-off times for March 26 due to the Wales v England match. Emails have been sent.
