Pub On The Shrubs Great Yarmouth & District Football League

Congratulations go to Lee Hodgeson’s MK Shrubs Reserves as they made it into round three of the Norfolk Primary Cup winning 4-1 at Blakeney in a rearranged second round tie.

The reward for MK in the last 32 is an all-league tie at home to Division Two Leaders Caister United A at Burgh Castle next week.

Caister, having already secured their place, faced a league match at Filby and Runham. Ross Stanton’s side have improved a lot since last season and pushed the leaders all the way but eventually Caister United shaded it.

Wanderers meanwhile kept up their pursuit of the championship as they defeated Caister Roma Reserves 9-1 at Ormesby, which included a hat-trick for Elliot Hannant.

Yarmouth Peelers were inactive as were Grosvenor Casino. Prostar Windows moved into third as they went nap in a 5-0 win over Martham.

For the next few weeks top flight clubs will be battling for semi-final berths in the league cup.

This week in the first full round of games Catfield went top of the group after they avenged last season’s Wiltshire Cup defeat beating a tough Caister Roma 3-1 at Allendale.

South Yarmouth got their campaign off to a decent start as they defeated Bohemians at Halvergate by a solitary goal in a sporting encounter.

Haven Bridge United meanwhile just shaded a tough match with MK Shrubs as they won 3-2 on the Beaconsfield.

The final game saw Albion and International play out a rare 0-0 draw.

This week sees three of our clubs looking for a place in the last 16 of the Norfolk Junior Cup.

Without doubt Catfield face the toughest tie as they have to play one of the favourites for the trophy Scole United at Ormesby in a clash of last season’s two beaten semi- finalists.

Albion Tramway face a trip to Feltwell of the Anglian Combination but having beaten Dereham Reserves and MK Shrubs will fancy their chances.

Haven Bridge have a home tie with Norwich leaders Circle Anglia on the Beaconsfield.

These games kick off at 1.45 and any support would be appreciated. The fixtures for November should now be out via email also – Ryan Starkey.
