More than 60 members of Caldecott Hall Golf Club braved the cold but sunny weather to see their four new captains drive off to open the new season.

First, club captain Peter Clements drove off and hit the ball a modest 204 yards, then seniors' captain Frank Mcloughlin drove 108 yards. The ladies' captain was next on the tee and a solid swing saw the ball go 102 yards, but the best was left to last with the first junior captain for Caldecott Hall, Matty Banyard, crunching the ball 256 yards.

After the cheers had died down members made the way to their tees for a shotgun start. Teams of three contested for a team stableford event.

Results: 1 David Scott, Steve Shand and Dave Oaks 89, 2 Heather Bullard, Fred Jarrold and Val Hall 86, 3 Mark Chilvers, Mike Taylor and Wayne Snwling 84, 4 Jo Brook, David Newton and Lynn Mcsweeney 83ocb. Nearest the pin, on the fourth hole, was won by Eileen Banham.

Club captain Peter Clements thanked everyone for making the first golf day of the new year a resounding success and wished every member a happy golfing year.
