Hemsby travelled to face Earsham without the influential Johnny Howell and also had four players carrying injuries, but that was no excuse for such a poor performance.

Hemsby had the first attack in the first minute but with only six minutes on the clock had conceded two goals,

The first was through poor play that left a player free in the area and he gave Rui Goncalves no chance and the second came from a long ball over the top that a striker lobbed in. It should have been worse a minute later but luckily the striker failed to convert.

Hemsby woke up in the 14th minute and from a corner, Felix Andrews found himself free at the end of the area but the keeper gathered easily.

It took a further 10 minutes before anything decent happened for Hemsby when good link-up play between Jonathon Peirce and Kristian Sutton ended with a great ball played into the area, but neither Lewis Stebbings nor Shannon Deeks could get on the end of it.

Two minutes later a very soft free-kick was given away, when other options were available, and a high ball into the area was headed home.

Hemsby’s first real effort on target came in the 31st minute when a good strike from Shannon was well saved and there were no further goals in the half.

A change of system to 3-4-3 was the way Hemsby started the second with Brad Burnett and Martin Weed introduced to try to turn things around. However within two minutes of the restart Earsham had increased their lead when a ball down the wing saw a slip, allowing a winger the chance to break into the area and he managed to finish well.

With nothing to lose Hemsby just played attacking football for the remainder of the match, but couldn’t find a way through and when they did manage to get efforts away, they were either saved or off target and then not surprisingly, Earsham added another two goals before Joe Youngs linked up well with Stebbings in the 85th minute and he finished well.

All in all it was a very disappointing and embarrassing performance and few players came out of the match with credit but the Quick Clean Laundrette man of the match was Jonathon Peirce.

Hemsby are at home to Hempnall on Saturday.
