ROLLESBY began their Division One campaign with a home win over local rivals Caister.

Alger invited the visitors to bat first. Stokes and Holmes initially struggled against a good opening spell from D Cook and J Flett before Holmes was clean bowled by Flett for four.

Brown and Stokes scored a brisk 22. Skipper Sims survived a couple of early scares and with Stokes rebuilt before a mix-up left Stokes run out for 26.

Sims, with solid support from French, began to smash the bowling to all parts before N Flett finally induced the error and Sims was caught in the deep by C Alger for a belligerent 69. Alger then dismissed French for 12 and only P Brown (13) offered token resistance and the returning D Cook (2-11) and J Flett (2-31) quickly accounted for the tail, to dismiss Caister for 167.

Rollesby's Layton and S Alger coped with a tough examination by Sims and French. However, with the score on 31, Sims bowled Layton (13) and when Stokes ran out S Alger (21) Rollesby were 38 for 2.

Duxbury and J Browning rebuilt, punishing anything loose and were in complete control until Tennant had Browning caught in the deep for 23, with the score 80-3. Chaney and Duxbury continued to bat with ease, Duxbury looking in excellent form.

In a flurry of boundaries, the pair quickly knocked off the remaining runs with overs to spare. Chaney was 32 not out and Duxbury hit a superb 64 not out in 168-3.

Next is another local derby as Rollesby visit Yarmouth.

Great Yarmouth had a hard- fought 38-run Division One victory over old rivals Kirkley Sports.

Faced with a typical hard, flat Beaconsfield wicket Yarmouth had no hesitation in opting to bat first.

Nicholls sent the first delivery of the day for four. He and Ruddick

rattled up the 50 partnership within 14 overs.

The Kirkley captain put himself on and struck with his fourth delivery, Ruddick (15) the victim of an unfortunate bounce. Sole joined Nicholls and the pace of the innings continued. Nicholls was in vintage form as the score went into triple figures. Another bowling change saw immediate returns when Muirhead turned to 13-year-old Rogers.

Undeterred by his first ball being dispatched to the boundary he struck with his third ball, Sole (25) smartly caught behind by Parker.

At 118-2 Yarmouth were well placed to claim maximum batting points especially with Nicholls in full flow.

Hodds (6) was deprived of most of the strike in a 40 run third-wicket partnership ended by yet another immediate return on a bowling change as opener Capling returned.

Two wickets in three balls then threatened the innings, including the tiring Nicholls a tantalising six runs short of a century. Yarmouth closed on 203-7.

The Kirkley innings started in a similar vein to the Yarmouth one until White had Knights (0) caught behind before Vickers yorked Freeman (0).

At 14-2 the innings was in trouble but Parker kept the score moving past 50 with good support by Laws.

Neil Harvey, making his return to first team bowling action, quickly claimed the key wicket with Parker (48) caught behind. Harvey (2-49) struck again to remove Laws (19) with Nicholls moving well to take a good catch in the gully. Kirkley stood at 106-4.

Yarmouth knew that getting rid of Tuttle early could be key and nearly had their man straight away but a tricky chance at point went down.

It looked to be an expensive miss as the two Kirkley batsmen attacked and started to close on their target.

The Yarmouth captain turned to his openers.

Vickers launched a devastating second spell taking 4-2 in the space of 15 balls including bowling Tuttle (12) and claiming the wicket of Holmes (46) thanks to another good Nicholls catch. With White (2-18) chipping in Kirkley collapsed from 142-4 to 163-9.

Capling (2 not out) and the obdurate Freeman (0 not out) prevented Yarmouth from claiming maximum points as Kirkley finished on 165-9.

Burton Arms men of the match jointly to Keith Nicholls 94 and two catches and Neil Harvey (2-49) for his crucial bowling spell. Honourable mention to Paul Vickers for his 5-28.

Rollesby A in Division Six travelled to the County Ground to play Horsford C who were asked to bat first.

The Horsford openers started tentatively against the opening attack of new recruit Roy Websdale and Mick Pearce, who had Selby caught by Catchpole in the sixth over. Emblem was next out following a good bit of fielding by Brady England.

Then Websdale took his first wicket for Rollesby with Snelling (5) beaten for pace and edging to Fakes. After 13 overs it was 22-3.

Brady England took a wicket in each of his first three overs. This then brought Danny Weber fell to the returning Websdale for a belligerent 55. The spin of Jimmy Catchpole then bamboozled the Horsford tail and he picked up the final three wickets, Horsford ending on 124 all out in the 39th over (Catchpole 3-17, England 3-35 and Websdale 2-27).

Alan Fakes and Brian Price were soon in touch, with Price stroking the ball all around the field. The scoring rate was nearly six an over before Price (45) perished with the partnership at 90.

Jimmy Catchpole (22no) and Fakes (22no) saw Rollesby A to a nine-wicket victory in only the 25th over. Ormesby Bingo Club MoM: Brian Price.
