Futsal fever for under 9s and 10s reached the final round of fixtures at the weekend when on Friday evening Bungay Town secured the points to become 2015 under 10 Futsal champions.

They came up against very strong opposition all evening and will no doubt be looking forward to the next under 10 Futsal competition which will be in Champions League format.

Sunday’s under 9s games were also played in spectacular fashion and after 20 end-to-end matches the Royals of Kirkley and Pakefield retained their title as under 9 Futsal champions for the second season in succession and will no doubt be back to take part in the under 9 Champions League competition in the new year.

This weekend it is the return of the fun and action-packed weekends as under 7s and 8s play Premiership 3v3, the X-Barr challenge and Speedzball all on the one day.

Congratulations to both Gorleston and Great Yarmouth Town on becoming the first cup finalists this season as Great Yarmouth, the present cup holders, will return to Emerald Park on Sunday, March 20, after their close 3-2 defeat of Kirkley and Pakefield Gunners. Meeting them in the final will be Gorleston FC in what will be a repeat of last season’s final.

Gorleston FC took an early lead against the fast-improving Shrublands on a wet and muddy Southtown Common pitch and despite maximum effort from both teams chances were very much at a premium.

Shrublands, who matched their highly-decorated opponents for long periods in the game, just could not find a way through a well-organised defence superbly marshalled throughout and when the two chances did come, two breathtaking saves from the Gorleston goalkeeper kept their one-goal lead intact when Shrublands looked certain to have scored.

Gorleston used all their past experience to play safely and when the chance arose broke away and secured a 2-0 lead late in the game and with little or no time remaining Gorleston FC had booked their place in the final again and a repeat of last season’s final and a meeting with old rivals Great Yarmouth Town.

Again wet weather saw games called off but those matches that did survive saw teams take full advantage of league points.

Blundeston Magpies returned home after inflicting a first defeat of the season on table-toppers Beccles Town Hornets. Although Blundeston remain eight points behind they do have three games in hand, so the second half of the season could see frequent changes at the top.

Bungay Town took no prisoners in their home win over Martham to open maintain their eight-point lead in the under 14 Division Two.

Kirkley and Pakefield Warriors lead the chasing pack, winning away at Waveney Panthers, but Gorleston Rangers Eagles lost ground as they lost at home to the Titans of Kirkley and Pakefield.

No change at the top of under 14 Division Three, where Caister Roma’s home win over Worstead Wolves keeps them three points clear at the top. But the Wasps of Beccles Town continue to chase them down after their home win over Waveney Pumas. They remain in second spot three points behind but with two games in hand.

With the third and fourth-placed teams waiting for any slip-ups, Stalham Town secured the points after defeating the Bees of Beccles Town at home.

The New Year and Christmas break for many teams will start this weekend. Apart from some left-over cup matches, there will be no fixtures on Sunday, December 20 and Sunday, December 27. Fixtures will resume on Sunday, January 3, except for under sevens and eights who are playing inside on Sunday.
