Tomorrow sees the football season kick off for real for Great Yarmouth Town and Gorleston – together again in the Ridgeons Premier Division after the Greens’ promotion last campaign.

Gorleston return to life in the top flight with a home game against Haverhill Rovers, kick-off 3pm.

The Bloaters start their league campaign with a trip to Hadleigh United (3pm kick-off) and visit Wroxham on Tuesday evening (7:45pm).

Gorleston have continued their preparations with two more victories, and plenty of goals.

On Saturday they travelled to Debenham and came away with a 4-1 victory whilst, on Tuesday night, Norwich St Johns visited Emerald Park and were soundly beaten 7-0.

The Greens notched 30 goals in their six (not counting the Norwich City game) pre-season friendlies.

On Tuesday night the Greens travel to Walmer Road to play Kirkley & Pakefield, for their first away league game of the season.

Kirkley signed two players from Gorleston during the summer, Jack Herbert and Sean Blowers, and have also added Yarmouth’s Joe Bell to their squad.

The Bloaters completed their pre-season programme when they sent a mixed team of first and reserve players to face Caister in the Simon Scott-Greenard Memorial Trophy.

In an entertaining game, Yarmouth dominated play in the first half and deserved their two-goal cushion at half-time with goals from Mitch Forbes and a stunning free-kick from Sam Jones.

The Bloaters made a number of changes after the break, but it was defensive mix-ups and a period of dominance which allowed Caister to score two quick goals.

Yarmouth finally regained control of the game in the final quarter with Aaron Hanks scoring the winner 20 minutes from time.

At the presentation of the trophy to Yarmouth’s Olly McCarthy by Isabella and Elliot Scott-Greenard, manager Paul Tong thanked Caister for the invitation to play against them, knowing Simon had had close links with both clubs.

Last season’s games against Hadleigh and Wroxham saw Yarmouth winning away from home but defeated at the Wellesley.

With the Bloaters having their first four league games on their travels, due to the unavailability of the Wellesley, they will be keen to replicate their away form from last season and come back with maximum points.

The U18 side play their first friendly of the new season with a trip to Hadleigh United on Sunday, kick-off 2pm.
