Ormesby's Bryson Walker was racing his brand new and well turned-out Ministox. Not only did it look good, he proved it went well too - taking victory in their first race of the night. He beat the best of the locals and a strong Scottish entry too.

Walker followed this up with a fourth place in the next race but could do nothing to stop Bacton's Matthew Naughton from taking a heat and final double.

The two-litre hot rods produced some thrilling racing with one of the biggest entries seen at the track in some while.

Norwich-based Carl Pye won the opening heat for the formula ahead of the very smart VW Corrado of Chris Harvey (East Grinstead).

Harvey had to settle for runners-up spot once again in the next heat, this time to another long-distance traveller Richard Poulter from Farnham.

The extra distance of the final, together with some great

driving, saw Harvey take the chequered flag.

Always a favourite with the crowd, the historic stock cars made their first appearance at the track this season, racing cars resembling those that raced back in the Seventies.

Triumphs, early Cortinas and even a couple of MG Magnettes battled for position on the tight track on which Clacton's Mark Kerry powered his new-for-this- season Mk1 Cortina to victory during the night.

Racing returns to the stadium on Sunday, April 26, 6.30pm start time when the stock rods will be contesting their East Anglian championship.

A good field of cars is expected together with banger racing and a rare visit by the Mascar formula, a scaled-down Nascar class.
