Gorleston Cliffs parkrun 104, April 16

GLORIOUS sunshine welcomed another great 100-plus turnout.

Many visitors took part and enjoyed the experience. Paul and Susan Freyne came from London (Bushy Park) and Susan volunteered whilst Paul ran. Others were from Hull and Woodbridge, Suffolk.

Thanks goes to those who have volunteered to help in the future.

Howard Wilcox was congratulated on being the first to achieve 100 Gorleston parkruns and Dave Girling was resplendent in his Big 50 birthday balloons!

This week, Easter Saturday, is the second anniversary and all are welcome to come along and mix fitness with fun on the run.

The new timing system, and the absence of the leader, has meant that those without barcodes have only featured in the results as “unknown”. Organisers are sorry for this but will try to update records manually. All the more reason, though, for everyone to bring good-quality barcodes with them.

In the race it was great to see two young athletes from GYDAC leading the way.

In his first run, Dominic Oliver was first in 18:20. Just a few seconds behind was regular Keelan Pyewell. Jonathon Meadows of Lowestoft Road Runners was third in 19:04.

In the ladies’ race, Cheryl Holder of Purple Patch Runners was first in 21:26 with Robyn Ollington and Elayne Ellington second and third in 24:16 and 24:21 respectively.

Brian Tate is regularly a best-performing runner. This week he was sixth overall and recorded an amazing 86 per cent, making him one of the very best parkrunners anywhere.

Thanks go to everyone who has taken part over the past two years, for firmly establishing the Gorleston Cliffs parkrun as one of the events in a very successful, county-wide fitness campaign.
