Perfect conditions for Great Yarmouth Road Runners East Coast Run

Sunday saw the 2015 Great Yarmouth Road Runners’ East Coast run.
The weather was almost perfect for running with the heavy winds of the previous days subsiding and the rain mostly holding off until after the race.
The route started and finished at St George’s Park in the town centre and headed down Trafalgar Road to the seafront. One and a half laps of the seafront later and the runners headed back down to Trafalgar Road to the finish line.
At 10.30am the race was started by Shirley Weymouth, the mayor of Great Yarmouth. The mayor was also delighted to be present at the finish line with special cheers for the runners representing her chosen charity DIAL.
More than 40 athletes completed the course, including two wheelchair competitors.
Peter Downing was the first wheelchair athlete home crossing the line in 46:24 with John Watt completed the course in 1-34:36.
First senior male was Piers Arnold of CONAC in a superb time of 31:45 winning the race by almost a minute. First female was Norwich Road Runner Amy Beck with a finishing time of 40:26.

First junior male was CONAC’s Ben Spratling in 34:04 finishing fourth overall. Bure Valley Harriers Hannah Stone was the first junior female with a time of 50:03.
CONAC won the male team prize with Piers Arnold, Dominic Oliver and Ben Spratling finishing first, third and fourth.
First female team went to Norwich Road Runners with Amy Beck, Sarah Peachy and Rachel Gillings taking the prize.
All runners were presented with a goody bag at the end of the race and many stayed for the presentations in St George’s Park.
Overall the race was a big success and Great Yarmouth Road Runners would like to thank the large turnout of runners, supporters and volunteers who helped to add to the atmosphere for the race.
The club hopes all competitors will look forward to doing it all again next year.
