Thursday of last week saw another batch of course personal bests achieved at Great Yarmouth Cycling Club’s time trial, and all by decent margins.

Ron Bean was the first rider in, clocking 32:10 and taking 27 seconds off his personal best. Brian Carr completed the course in 27:07, taking 32 seconds off his previous best.

Simon Smith knocked an amazing 37 seconds off his personal best, completing in 27:26. Chessie Wood was back with a vengeance after a two week absence, knocking 20 seconds off her top mark and clocking a time of 32:52.

Steve Brown took 58 seconds off his best for the year, finishing in 26:00. Lewis Bird took part in his first club time trial of the year, completing in 27:15. The event was won by Simon Scott in 23:13.

On Sunday, Julian Claxton took part in the EDCA 100 mile Time Trial, a brutal four and a half laps of the Wymondham-Snetterton section of the A11.

It was an early start, with his pushing off time at 6.38am. Conditions at the start were good, but towards 9am, a significant headwind set in, putting paid to exceptionally fast times.

The Great Yarmouth CC social riders changed their normal Sunday excursions to ride over to Wymondham and cheer Julian on, which gave him a welcome boost.

A special thanks must go to Samantha for her exceptional bottle handling skills, without which he would have had difficulty managing the event.

He completed the course in an excellent time of 4:25:28 and, in doing so, won the club’s Premier Cup.

This year’s Dunwich Dynamo saw 10 Great Yarmouth CC riders take part in the 115 miles from London Fields to Dunwich beach. The night ride involved the riders setting off at 7.45pm, and approximately 3,000 other riders also took part in the event.

The ride had a great atmosphere with villagers along the route setting up refreshment stalls and cheering the riders on throughout the night.

The Great Yarmouth riders had two stops along the route, the second being at Needham Lakes, where rider Simon Risi had set up his coffee stall. The GYCC group arrived at their destination at 3.50am.

Once the riders had rested at Dunwich, they rode the extra 50 miles home to Great Yarmouth where they had a well deserved breakfast.
