After a three year lay-off from competitive karate, to concentrate on his GCSEs and A-Levels, Phoenix Karate Schools instructor, James Allan 2nd Dan has been travelling to Bury, Lancashire, to train with the AMA National Squad.

At last weekend’s session he was once again given his National Badge, after winning all of his fights in the selections.

Twenty-year-old James will be travelling with the squad to the Senior European Championships in Irvine Scotland at the beginning of June and will join Phoenix students Simone Folkes, Frasier Thompson and Samuel Snowling in Serbia for the Junior World Championships in October.

James has been training with Chief Instructor Charlie Trorey 5th Dan since he was five years old and has competed successfully in many competitions over the years. James recently qualified as an Instructor and teaches for Phoenix on a Friday, at its class at Denes High School, Lowestoft and on Tuesdays at the East Anglian Martial Arts Centre in Oulton Broad.

His first major competition in the run-up to Scotland, is this weekend’s AMA International Open Championships in Sheffield, featuring fighters from over 30 countries.
