Playing Huntingdon in the quarter-final of the Vivienne Trophy was a big occasion on Thursday. Although the result went 85-79 against Acle, all players can be proud of their efforts in this contest.

At home, Anita Nelson, Rose Yaxley, Shirley Genery and Pat Pegram started well but dropped a six on the 10th end to go 10 each. At 13 all at 12 ends, the Acle girls went on to win the following eight ends to go 26-13, dropped a four on the final end, but won 26-17. Gladys Gibbs, Brenda Cole, Pat Dickinson and Margaret Shields were 11-4 up at six ends, then 11-10 at 10, and went on to win in style 26-13.

Away, Anne Drury's rink went into a 7-3 lead at five ends, 8-10 at 10, and 12-14 at 15. The last six ends were crucial, but they could not hold back the opposition and lost 14-28. Bing Smith's rink were 6-9 at 10 ends and 11-14 at 15, giving Acle an overall lead of six at one point, thenn it went Huntingdon's way, as Bing lost 13-27.

Marina Ladies Bowls

The Blues had a tough game against County Arts Yellow. Just one block won and three lost. The score was 49-63, with only one point from the eight available gained.

The only block to win was H Farrow, J Barber and W Ellison, who were ahead 11-4 at eight ends, then dropped six shots over the next four ends to make it a tight game at 11-10, but they scored three shots on the last two ends for 14-10.

J Carter, M Oram and J Saunders were 6-5 ahead at seven ends, then lost the next end, but came back on the ninth with a six to make it 12-9, then scored just one more shot to 10 against and lost 13-19.

M Clark, P George and M Symonds were 3-9 down at nine ends, rallied with a four and a two, but with three against them they lost 9-12.

M Surplice, C Jesty and T Lewis were 4-11 down at six ends and lost 8-0 over the next four ends, making it 4-20. They rallied well, scoring nine more shots to two against, but the difference was too great and they lost 13-22.

Browston Hall Bowls

The ladies A team playing at home against Yarmouth Red managed three points in a thrilling 54-54 draw.

Angela Kher, June Petts and Pat Drinkall1 were down in the early ends, but gradually picked up shots to win 18-7. June Butcher's block led for most of the game but dropped a four on the penultimate end and lost 11-12. Ilene Hadden, 8-8 at the 12th, went down 8-13. The triple of Barbara Cheverton, down on the early ends, picked up a seven and a five on the closing ends and went down 17-22.
