YARMOUTH picked up their second win of the 2008 campaign with a 77-run victory over a below-strength Caister side.

Asked to bat first Yarmouth made a steady start against the new ball pairing of Kerrison and Tennant.

Caister began to strangle the runs and forced the breakthrough when Nicholls (8) was caught trying to hit over the top. Sole joined Ruddick and looked to be positive from the start as the second wicket pair got the scoreboard moving.

The duo had taken the score to 47 before Ruddick (15) played on to give Brown his first wicket. The celebrations were short-lived however as Sole and Hak then took the game away with a 96-run third-wicket partnership in just 16 overs.

Hak looked at his magisterial best as he hit Brown for five sixes and looked on course for his first 50 of the season before Brown (2-68) had the last laugh, capturing the wicket of the Yarmouth man for an excellent 47.

Sole (75 not out) continued with Fitzsimmons (18 not out) to take the innings to 181-3 at tea with credit to Caister for some tight bowling and fielding at the end of the innings to stop Yarmouth getting away.

The second innings got off to the best possible start for Yarmouth, key man Stokes bowled by Vickers (1-25) first ball.

Undeterred, the Caister batsmen took the attack to the bowling as they set off at five an over.

R Brown was flying and had reached 23 before helping what was possibly the worst delivery of the day straight to Oxborough at backward square to give Anguish a bonus wicket.

Anguish did for P Brown the very next over in a more conventional manner and Caister were 39-3.

The wickets falling did nothing to slow the run rate though as Caister were showing no intention of hanging around.

Lamming and French added another 28 runs in quick time before Lamming became Anguish's third victim as he popped a catch up to Hak in the covers.

French followed six runs later as Oxborough (2-14) entered the fray and Yarmouth smelled that elusive smell of victory.

With the runs drying up the wickets continued to fall with Oxborough and White (2-30) doing the damage before the spin of Thompson (1-0) brought the innings to a close on 104.

The victory raised hopes of fighting out of the relegation spots, but with results elsewhere going against them this now seems a very unlikely proposition.
