Record entries for Humpty Dumpty 10K

Overwhelmed was the response of race director Pat Brightman to the record 519 entries in the eight Humpty Dumpty 10K, which included Louis Miller who aged 85 finished with daughter Sarah.

The men’s race was won by Tom Fairbrother from the Woodbridge Shufflers who improved from second last year to finish in 32:52.

He was followed by Michael Eccles from Norfolk Gazelles in 33:41 with Kieran McMorran of Ipswich Jaffa third.

The ladies’ race was won by St Edmunds Pacer Jo Coates in 37:15, followed by Dani Nimmock of City of Norwich and fellow City of Norwich runner Charlotte Rose in 38:17 in third.

Peter Downing completed the course in his wheelchair in 51:38.

Norwich Road Runners won the senior men’s team prize, whilst City of Norwich won the senior ladies. Norfolk Gazelles won the men’s masters and Norwich Road Runners took the ladies’ masters.

Thanks must go to the runners, to members, friends and family of GYDAC who helped with the organisation, assisted by Marshals from other clubs, to the Freethorpe First Responders and Freethorpe Scout Group who organised water stations, to Freethorpe Village Hall for facilities and to the Humpty Dumpty Brewery.

The field included a record turnout from Great Yarmouth Road Runner, with 38 runners, seven winning prizes and 12 achieving personal bests.

First back for the club was Kyle Ella in 36.07 in sixth place picking up third place in the senior men.

Andrew Manning was 27th in 40.02 and was third male vet in 45-49. Nicola Baker was 85th and was first lady in a PB of 44.30 taking second in the ladies vet in 45-49. John Bone was 109th in 45.44 for second in the men’s vet 65-69. Lorrain Dawson collected another trophy in 173rd with 49.30 and finishing second in the ladies vet 55-59. Rebecca Durant was third in the vet 60-65 in 324th in 56.47. Carole Spong was second in the ladies vet +65 with 57.35 in 330th.

The senior team of Frankie Turner, Claire Baker and Jodie Lee came third and the ladies’ masters team of Nicola Baker, Penny Studley and Lorrain Dawson were second.

Sarah Sayers, Pandora Buck, Julie Webster and Sam O’Hara, had their first GYRR races.
