Sunday saw the annual running of the Bungay Black Dog half and full marathons.

With this one of the more challenging events, Great Yarmouth Road Runners took seven members.

Taking on the full marathon were Phil Quantrill, Richard Blake and first-timer Steve Stringer.

As with all determined athletes, Steve had a tough target time to aim for and finished only four minutes away from it, recording 4-19:24 in an event which is tougher than most.

In the half marathon, Great Road Runners had Andrew and Karen Manning, Stephen Dady and David Girling in the field.

First home was Andrew Manning, running as strongly as ever, then Stephen Dady, who was competing for the third weekend on the trot.

Karen Manning was again representing the ladies with distinction.

With another race completed by David Girling, he is now well on his way to his target of 50 races this year.

Finishing times for the full marathon: Phil Quantrill 2-59:02 (5th place), Richard Blake (winner of his age group 3-18:02 (31th) and Steve Stringer 4-19:24 (170th): 218 runners finished.

Finishing times for the half marathon: Andrew Manning 1-25:18 (11th), Stephen Dady 1-38:64 (64th), Karen Manning 1-45:20 (106th), Dave Girling 1-50:26 (145th): 424 runners finished.

Also last weekend Matthew Sutton was competing in the Paris Marathon and finished in 3-40:59.

Great Yarmouth Road Runners who will be taking on the Virgin London Marathon this weekend are Jeff Helmore, Neil Sibley, Nicos Symeou, Andrew Baker, Mark Mountain, Bob Arnell, Andy Peck, Carol Spong and Linda Carter.

They will be on the starting line but club thoughts go to those who are unable to take their place at the start due to injuries or illness.

In the Parkrun this week there were eight Road Runners in another good field of 95.

Placings were 15 Stephen Leeves 20:49, 17 Mark Peach 22:04 (Park Run pb), 29 Dave Girling 23:47, 46 Pauline Richardson 25:49, 60 Peter Spandler 27:30, 74 Bob Arnell 30:29, 83 Steve Stringer 34:28, 87 Jim Spong 36:01.

If you fancy taking on a running race but not quite a marathon, there is the Great Yarmouth Road Runners 5 Mile Series which starts at 7.15pm on Wednesday, April 20 from the Marina Centre.

This is a three-race event but you can enter as many races as you wish to.
