IN an unprecedented turnout, 32 members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners paid a fitting tribute to one of their fellow runners, Paul Brookshaw, who died tragically while out running some weeks ago.

IN an unprecedented turnout, 32 members of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners paid a fitting tribute to one of their fellow runners, Paul Brookshaw, who died tragically while out running some weeks ago.

They did so at the popular Wroxham 5k event, where organisers and marshals from the Norwich Road Runners made the group more than welcome and went out of their way to accommodate them.

Like the cohort of runners themselves, who ran together throughout the race, they made it plain for all to see that there is a great solidarity and warmth which lies within the local running community.

Times and positions did not matter, all concerned were simply content to pay their respects in this way.

It was back to business as usual, however, the following Sunday at Reedham, for the popular Humpty Dumpty 10k organised by the Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club in conjunction with the local brewery of that name (see page four).

Among the 268 finishers were eight of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners. There were some impressive performances and some ding-dong battles.

First clubman home, Sean Jermy, was just 10 seconds ahead of John Hartley, with Shawn Mason, John Bone and Matthew Sutton quite evenly placed behind.

Making up the strong contingent were Ivan Lees, Carole Spong and Roger Andrews. These and many others will be looking forward to another impressive turnout, this time for the Mutford Relays, a little later this month.

Humpty Dumpty 10k (Great Yarmouth Road Runners finishing positions and times): 24 Sean Jermy 39 minutes 48 seconds, 26 John Hartley 39:58, 38 Shawn Mason 41:57, 55 John Bone 43:48, 75 Matthew Sutton 46:29, 143 Ivan Lees 52:32, 159 Carole Spong 54:09, 256 Roger Andrews 67:50.
