As some of the club continued to train for their spring marathons, four intrepid Road Runners decided to head to Bury St Edmunds for the Tarpley 10-mile and 20-mile race.
As they set foot outside their doors at 8am on Sunday morning into the Beast from the East, with temperatures of 2 degrees but the wind making it feel much colder, the race at Tarpley must have seemed daunting. By the time they made their way to the race, the wind had dropped to a stiff breeze and the temperature had risen to a balmy 3 degrees. Sean Jermy tackled the 10-mile race after doing a six-mile warm-up and finished in a very good 1-13:38 in 67th.Tamsin Desborough, John Bone and Dave Girling tackled the 20-mile race. On a rural, undulating and pretty one-lap course, they were all very pleased with the results. John Bone finished 59th in 2-39:27 winning the O65 category. Dave Girling finished his first 20 mile race in 139th place (3-13:12) and Tamsin Desborough, competing in her first race over half marathon distance, finished in a very good time of 3-28:44 in 158th place.
