Emily Woods competed at the British Championships at the weekend and retained her British title once again.

The 18-year-old gave a polished performance in the artistic roller skating solo dance category and was crowned Junior British Champion for the second year.

She has now won the British title for seventh consecutive years at four different age categories.

Her dedication and commitment for the sport has secured her place in the British squad for seven years running and her selection for the Europeans taking place in Italy. Trials for the World Roller Games are taking place later in the year and Emily is hoping to secure her place in the team.

On the first day of the Championships she skated two routines. The first was the Terenzie waltz, a compulsory dance and she gave an elegant performance, portraying the music well.

The next performance was a style dance, a rock and roll medley with the blues compulsory dance in the routine. Once again she gave a brilliant performance, wooing the audience and judges and placing her first at the end of the day.

With a comfortable lead the pressure was taken off the next day with her last dance. The free dance she skated was upbeat, lively, energetic piece and the marks received increased her lead.

Emily skates for Stalham and Great Yarmouth Artistic Roller Skating Club who train in the sport hall at the Marina Centre. She has been helping he coach Martin Pickering train the rest of the Stalham team for championships. Jessica Taylor, who has much improved over the year, gave an impressive lively performance and came 16th in the cadet category out of 29 skaters.

Mia Steward followed, with her graceful and elegant movements and came 17th in the cadet category. Ellis Parker gave a strong performance in the Cadet category with her speed across the floor and her attention to detail with body lines and placed 18th. Zoe King’s hard work showed through her passionate performance and she came 13th in the senior category.

Emily has now finished her A levels and hopes to study Physical Education at the University of East Anglia. She is looking for sponsorship to help with her roller skating programme and anyone interested in helping should ring 07715 961392.
