Rollesby secured a sixth win on the bounce, against visitors Ketteringham Hall, and maintained their position at the top of the Norfolk League Division One.

Ketteringham’s captain Howes chose to bat first and the side were bowled out for just 94.

Cook found some rhythm and removed both openers in successive overs with decent inswing bowling. Charlish became Cook’s third victim, caught behind, and Ketteringham were in a spot of bother.

Skipper Howes and Quinton saw off the opening spells of Cook (3-12) and Sparkes (0-27). A double bowling change was made by Duxbury as Nunn and Flett came on.

Flett continued his fine early-season form and outfoxed Howes for a well made 29, bowling him and claiming the breakthrough Rollesby were searching for.

With an end now open, Nunn and Flett worked well in tandem to attack the new batsmen. After initially struggling to find his line, a change of approach from Nunn to around the wicket saw him claim his first scalp of the game.

Rollesby were then clinical at shutting the Kettertingham Hall tail down with Flett and Nunn claiming another two wickets apiece, the highlight being Nunn bowling Ranger for a duck with one of the more slower of slow balls seen at this level. Quinton was left stranded on 23 not out.

Baker, in the first over he faced, smacked Barrett for consecutive boundaries but then fell in the same over, sending a high catch to mid on for eight.

This brought Chaney to the crease and the batsmen approached the bowling of Barrett and Bush with caution. This changed, however, when in search for more wickets Ketteringham brought Quinton on to bowl.

His opening over went for 13 with Chaney being the main beneficiary, the highlight a six over long-off that would have left the ground if it had not been hit into the strong easterly wind. At tea Rollesby were 47-1 and halfway to victory.

On resumption the pair batted calmly until with the score on 67, Chaney was bowled from the first ball he faced from change bowler Ranger for 28.

There were no further casualties as P Cook (15) and skipper Duxbury (37) put away the bad balls and reached the target within 20 overs.

Rollesby A lost to Great Melton C by seven wickets in Norfolk League Division Six.

In June sunshine, Browning won the toss for Rollesby and subjected Great Melton to a spell in the field.

In less than 30 overs Rollesby A put in a dire batting performance for modest total of 53-9. The gentle but accurate opening attack of Mason (5-1-14-1) and Brett (6-4-6-0) needed only to hit the poor surface for the ball to take on a life of its own.

Price (1) pulled an innocuous delivery from Mason straight to square leg. Roffey (4) was disappointed to be given out lbw, and that dismissal was a harbinger of disaster, with G Barnden (2) sharply caught and bowled by Farmer; Browning (0), Clarke (2) and Thackray (0) all perishing without greatly troubling the scorers. In the meantime, Hewitt (21) was attempting to anchor the innings, but was undone by the flight of the promising Pickle (8-5-3-14), bowled for 21.

With the score at less than 50, occasional tail-end stalwart P Endall joined the debutant R Endall, seeing out a few balls by DeSalis (4-2-8-2) before cutting Pickle through the covers, and subsequently playing a classy sweep for four. His fledgling innings was cut short as R Endall was stumped for one, leaving Rollesby A well short of the second batting point.

G Barnden (5-0-19-1) brought the attack to the Great Melton openers, bowling a mixture that beat the edge and dropped too short in roughly equal measure.

Clarke (6) lasted briefly; Browning (4-1-13-1) at the other end bowling Woolridge (4). With Browning keen to vary the bowling, P Endall (1-0-9-1) was introduced, promptly being smashed for four through the leg side before surprising Brett (5) with a delivery that looped into the grateful gloves of Hewitt.

A comparatively tight over from J Clarke (1-0-2-0) proved insufficient, with opener S Clarke (27) adopting a pitch-appropriate ‘hit anything’ approach. Together with Frazer (12) he brought Great Melton C over the line with seven wickets to spare.
