MARTHAM: On Wednesday the EBA team played Cantley at home and lost 58-66. Two blocks lost and one won, getting just one point.

On Friday in the Fermoy Cup Martham played Mattishall.

The block playing at home won 25-14; playing away the rink skipped by Les Smith won 27-12 to win 52-26.

In the Great Yarmouth League Martham A were at home to Rollesby, Martham won 105-52 (6-1).

Martham B team had a 5-2 win against Northgate on Friday with the top block of Ian Clements, Sue Moore and Russell Thurtle winning 27-14.

The same score was achieved on Monday against Caister B.

John Lown, Mike Gallant and Roy Roofe won 36-5 and Ron Manser, Sue Moore and Jack Mckane won 38-6.

In the Norfolk County League, bowling on a tricky green, Martham A lost 43-54 gaining only one point.

Martham B had a good start to the season away at Acle they lost on one rink to win 62-45 for seven points.

Top block went to Paul Randall, Mark Pratt and Ethel Watson 36-9.

In the Yarmouth Ladies' League Martham gained only one point at home against Hickling 51-67. Winning block was Sandra Faircloth, Jane Watson and Sheena Seily.

Rollesby: Normal business resumed with a short trip down the road to Martham A in the Yarmouth League where Rollesby found the opposition too strong on the night.

A solitary success on the rink of J Avery, A Palmer, T Avery 20-18, did little for the overall score of 52-105, points 1-6.

Making their first appearance in the afternoon Duffield League against Hoveton, Rollesby could not make home advantage count for much and despite the 21-8 win by J Seeranj, A Christie, A Palmer, the home side lost overall by the narrow margin of 53-58, points 2-8.

Away to Ormesby, again in the Yarmouth League, Rollesby fared better, winning on three rinks S Daniels, T Coots, B Catchpole 24-17, M Coots, E Taylor, G Curtis 19-14 and J Avery, J Temple, T Avery 40-7 (albeit unfortunately against a block of two). Overall score 96-56, points 6-1.

Finishing the week at home in the County League against Bradwell on the coldest of May nights, Rollesby won 58-43, points 7-2. F Walker, M Thomas, A Palmer 21-12, S Allen, R Blunden, T Coots 21-9 and although losing 16-22, a valiant effort from J Mason, M Coots, .Wilkin who came back from a 1-15 deficit.

ORMESBY played their first two games of the season last Tuesday.

Their Federation Red team had a good win against Hemsby at home winning on two rinks and drawing on one, giving a score of 56 shots to 52 and an overall score of eight points to one.

The Federation Blue team were less fortunate, losing 8-1 away to Fleggburgh Village.

The Yarmouth League B team were in action at home to Winterton.

They won on two rinks, drew on one and lost on the fourth. The score was 82-78 with an overall score of 5.5 points to 1.5.

For the Yarmouth League A team, things didn't quite go to plan.

In their first match of the season at home against Rollesby they went down 56-96 with an overall score of 1-6. The winning block was Bernie Rafferty and Sylvia and Charles Brooker. I Williams and M Clutterbuck were a player short and sustained a heavy loss of 7-40.

In their second match away to Runham they lost, on a challenging green, with a score of half a point coming from Beryl Rafferty, Colin Fortescue and Derek Humphries to 6.5 points.

Caister: Club results for the week starting May 4 were: EBA - In the Hansell League Caister played away at Great Pumstead and lost 50-59 (7-0).

In the Fermoy Cup Caister played Thorpe Rec. (one block at home one block away) and won 56-23 overall.

Federation - In the Tuesday County League Caister A played Winterton at home winning 86-38 (9-0) and Caister Castaways played away at Bacton losing 44-48 (3-6).

In the Great Yarmouth District League Division Two, Caister B played Filby A, winning 89-63 (6-1).

Hickling: Last week the A team beat Filby 7-2 and the B team beat MarthamA 8-1.

In The Broadland League Hickling lost to Neatishead 1-6 but in the Yarmouth League beat Gorleston 6-1.

The ladies beat Martham 5-1 and their match with Blofield Heath was cancelled.
