Broadland-Great Yarmouth 3, Ipswich YM 18

Saturday's fixture was made possible by the score of club members who came down early to clear snow from the lines on the pitch. There was a good covering of snow, but the ground underneath was soft, allowing the match to go ahead.

Broadland had a poor start and failure to clear lines gifted Ipswich an early try.

Broadland composed themselves. A devastating run from Royce Chiddle saw him bounce three tackles after breaking from the halfway line before being dragged down well inside the Ipswich 22 metre line. Broadland added three points through a penalty to put them back in the game.

Broadland were taking some excellent ball in the line-out with Rye Bilyard linking well with Morrison and Towfighi. Perhaps the criticism for Broadland was limited support play, due to over commitment at the first breakdown.

Ledgerwood and White were both trying all the tricks to create space, but Ipswich defended well. Broadland were solid in the scrum, in a fairly evenly contested element of the match. No 8 Adam Towfighi had a great break from the back of a ruck, but momentum was lost through poor rucking from Broadland. Ipswich added a penalty before the half.

Snow began to fall in the second half and conditions were not ideal, Broadland

were making good ground but were not

making much progress beyond the Ipswich 22 metre line.

Ipswich added a second try, Broadland made two replacements with Andy Riches and Phil Buckley joining the field.

Ash Lightfoot was enjoying the freedom of playing in his old position of full-back and was making inroads into Ipswich through his bruising runs from deep.

Broadland were having to take risk to get back in the game. Half-backs Ruddick and Doggett had some success at moving the ball around. The Yarmouth side went wide but without support and were overstretched. Ipswich countered well to score in the corner.

Ipswich almost scored in the dying minutes when a penalty kick was blown back to fall just short of the posts. The scramble saw the ball change hands more than once. Broadland finally gained position and cleared.

Ipswich keep Broadland pinned back in the last 10 with a constant barrage of kicks, Broadland were returning them well but could not get the break they needed.

Tomorrow Broadland play host to Swaffham, kick-off is at 2.15pm at Cobholm recreation ground, Great Yarmouth.
