This week’s Saturday Parkrun was attended by 10 of the Great Yarmouth Road Runners Club.

First back was Matthew Sutton returning to his best form in a time of 20:04 and third in the placings. Joel Payne managed a pb time of 21:04 and sixth overall in only his third outing.

Andrew Baker finished in a strong 21:26 (ninth) and was followed home by Paul Westgate in 22:56 (18th).

New club member Dave Girling came over the line in 23:16 (20th), closely followed by Ivan Lees in 24:53 which is a pb (28th).

Rhiannon Payne also obtained a pb in 28:27 (43rd) and beat off competition from Peter Spandler in 28:44 (44th).

Linda Carter completed the distance in 29:28 (48th) in her London Marathon training, while another marathon hopeful, Bob Arnell, finished in 31:22 (52nd).

On a cold but dry Sunday, four of the Road Runners took to the off-road style of racing with the Guts and Glory Race near Colchester.

The course runs through a quarry and a nearby woodland trail. With this event being a two-lap course the conditions became worse as the race carried on, but this only increased the fun for the runners.

The race has two distances, eight miles and around five miles. Annette Carter, on her way back from injury, competed in the five-mile version in a superb time of 1-00:00 which was only five minutes slower than last year’s winner of the event.

First to finish for the Road Runners was David Girling in a time around 1-36:00. He beat Andy Peck to the finishing line in 1-44:00.

Peter Spandler enjoyed the event and also finished well in 2-06:00 in an event which sees runners help each other to overcome the obstacles.
