THE fifth running of the Alex Moore Memorial Relay was in memory of a Norfolk Gazelle athlete who died during a parachute jump in 2004.

It was organised by his running club and a total of 31 teams competed in this relay around the beautiful village of Skeyton, near North Walsham, and it required three runners per team.

Great Yarmouth and District Athletics Club entered a team for the first time - the relay is run in three legs.

The first runner does one lap of 2.2 miles - this was taken on by Pat Brightman who struggled with the undulations but finished in a time of 25:40. She handed over to Dawn Clegg, who had to complete two laps - a total of 4.4 miles and she was very pleased with her time of 43:20.

Dawn then handed over to Sue Fraser, who also had to complete two laps, this she achieved in an excellent time of 37:06 before rejoining Pat and Dawn who together had to complete a further lap.

GYDAC finished in a time of 2-12:26.

On the night of the Champions League final, Norwich Road Runners were pleased to have 237 runners for the first of their three Race 5K series, based in Wroxham.

Gorleston Cliffs Park Run No 5 was the hottest race yet - and not just because ofthe weather, which was glorious if a little too warm for 5k running.

The battle at the front was intense with the lead changing at least twice. Eventually Sean Jermy triumphed over Patrick Colby by four seconds in a pb and course record time of 19min 16secs. There was also a record entry of 38 runners.

Membership of the Gorleston Cliffs Park Run event has now topped 100.

Thanks go to both runners and volunteers for achieving a pleasing start with this event. The main aim is to promote fitness in the open air, so all including walkers, joggers children (accompanied if under 10), dog walkers, pram pushers are very welcome to join in.

It is free and starts opposite Park Road at 9am every Saturday morning. The only condition is that you should register on the park run website before taking part. For most, apart from the competitive few at the front, it is meant to be a fun, shared experience of exercise.
