Coltishall was filled with runners for the 10th anniversary of the Mike Groves Run.

A team of 10 runners from Great Yarmouth and District Athletic Club (pictured) took part. The first member home was Catherine Lee, 13, in her first road race. An exceptional performance saw her finish 12th overall and first lady in a time of 24:30, over a minute ahead of the next female competitor.

Andrew McNamara was pleased with his 26:58. Next to finish was John England in 28:44.

The in-house competition amongst the other ladies was won by Diane Clark in 36:02, only two strides ahead of Sue Ryles in 36:04 and three paces behind was Dawn Clegg in 36:07. Maureen England finished in 36:40, having been chased by another younger novice Karen Goodwin who recorded 37:03. Not far behind this group was Denise Goodwin in 39:32. Pat Brightman struggled over the line in 45:24.

Last Sunday's annual Mutford relays with over 30 teams included four from the Great Yarmouth Road Runners, who acquitted themselves well.

Though not in among the prizes, they can be more than happy with their performances and the continuing camaraderie which exists within the club. Once again there was a fitting gesture to Paul Brookshaw, this time in the form of a special commemorative tee-shirt which was worn for the event.

Somewhat more competitive was the previous Friday's Lord Mayor's 5k race in Norwich, a race in which runners must reach the half-way mark in under 10 minutes or be removed from the race.

No problem there for the Yarmouth contingent of Matthew Sutton, John Hartley and Sean Jermy, all of them well under the 20 minute mark at the finish.

Earlier on that same week the evergreen Chris Harbord was the sole Seasider at the 10th running of the Mike Groves race, a race held annually in memory of another runner who died tragically doing what he liked best.

The Gorleston Cliffs 5k Park Run saw a race to the wire this week.

Peter Gedge triumphed over Phil Quantrill by just two seconds. Peter, who was running for the first time, recorded an excellent time of 18:21 and Phil, a previous GYRR winner, despite being narrowly beaten, recorded a personal best for the course. Peter recorded the day's best age graded result of 75 per cent.

Lorraine Dawson, GYRR, won the ladies race for the third time in 24:40.

Peter Smith leads the points table by 122 points from Howard Wilcox.

Janet Sanderson leads the ladies' table from Avril Lilly.

Thirty seven runners took part this week.
