Great Yarmouth & District Football League

It was cup fever time on the Beaconsfield.

In the Norfolk Junior Cup third round, Lacon Arms faced former Norfolk Primary Cup winners East Harling. Lacon Arms quickly went two up, but East Harling fought back. In the end Steve Cuff's side made it through with a 5-4 victory.

Albion are also through, accounting for Sprowston Athletic Reserves. Albion led by a single goal at the break, but upped the tempo in the second half and three inspired substitutions by Titch Leighton saw all three come on to score as Albion progressed 4-0.

Catfield made it three sides in the last 16 as they defeated a talented Thetford Rovers 5-2. The former finalists took early control.

Catfield, along with Albion and Lacon Arms, will look forward to the fourth round draw today on Radio Norfolk at 6.30pm.

The league did, however, lose GY International, although they were not disgraced in losing 2-1 at Acle Reserves.

In the league's premier competition, the Wiltshire Cup, with almost 120 years' history, three more first round ties were settled.

The surprise were Carpathians, who travelled to Division Two leaders Norfolk and Chance who had a 100 per cent record.

Carpathians took their chances and set up a trip to Martham A on December 5 in round two with a 3-1 scoreline.

GY Peelers recorded their first win of the season, 2-1 over South Yarmouth at Lynn Grove. GY Peelers will go to Mill Lane to face MK United in round two, while Division One high-flyers Reedham won 10-0 at Division Two side Paperclip. Reedham's reward is a home tie on January 2, as they face the winners of the GY United and GY International tie.

Second round draw: Albion v Tramway, Shrublands v Hemsby Reserves, Mk United v GY Peelers, Bohemians v Catfield, Martham A v Carpathians, Reedham v GY United or GY International, Caister United A v Lacon Arms, Feathers v Prostar Windows.

The eight losing sides will join the six losing sides from the first round to make up the Percy Nockolds competition, while the victors will progress to the quarter-finals.

Divisions One and Two both have new leaders, as MK United took over top spot in Division One with a comfortable victory over Hemsby Reserves. Mick Saunders gave a special mention to the Hemsby goalkeeper.

Shrublands recorded their third straight league win as they moved away from the drop zone with a 3-1 win at Tramway.

In Division Two, Bohemians defeated Martham A 7-1 to take over at the top. Martham challenged Bohemians for the first hour, and Adrian Wells, Martham's manager, was very pleased with how his side battled. However, Bohemians' experience told against a youthful Martham side.

MK United Reserves travelled to play Gorleston Wanderers at Halvergate and won 5-1 to cement fourth spot. Prostar Windows moved up to fifth with a 1-0 win over Feathers. Although Feathers have lost four games this season in all competitions, so far they have not lost by more than two goals in any game.

Tomorrow sees League Cup group action in Division One, with a full Division Two league programme.

Clubs need to text their results in after the game on Saturday evening to the fixtures secretary, as this will become mandatory at the next league meeting, which is scheduled for December 17.
