Great Yarmouth and District Football League

AGAIN this week four games in the HA Holmes Cup took place and in Group One MK United took a big stride into the last four as they managed to avoid defeat against a very good Lacon Arms side.

MK had the better of the first half in awful conditions but found David Pitts, in the Lacons goal, in top form as the score remained goalless. Again MK started brighter and again two superb saves from Pitts denied MK. However, it was Lacons who struck when a harmless looking cross was carried goal-wards in the wind. Soloman could only get a hand on it as Salmon tapped home. Lacons then battled for everything and frustrated the MK forward line but gave away a daft penalty which saw Adam Hogg convert to give MK a point. A win against Hemsby Reserves in their last game will seal a semi-final place.

Meanwhile Hemsby Reserves put themselves back into contention in the group with a 2-0 away win over Tramway.

In Group Two, GY Peelers created the shock of the day as they thumped GY International 8-1 to give Jason Howell's side two wins on the bounce. Albion scored a late winner from an Oldham free-kick to give them a 4-3 win over Reedham.

In Division One, Catfield are back at the top as they beat a very hard-working Shrublands 5-0 with includes a brace for Scott Calver.

Norfolk and Chance had a day to remember as first Bohemains the morning leaders dropped two points in a goalless draw with Gorleston Wanderers then they defeated GY United 4-2 which included a goal from Chance goalkeeper Luke Spall as he scored direct from a kick-out.

Carpathians kept the pressure on in third as they defeated Paperclip 4-1

while MK United also defeated Caister United A 4-1.

South Yarmouth and Prostar Windows shared a six-goal thriller while Feathers recorded a fine 5-0 win over Martham A.

The league meeting is now December 10 at the Burrage Centre and all clubs must attend as all issues from the season so far will be discussed.

This week sees four ties in the Burgess Cup take place and these must be played to a finish with a 1.30pm start.
