THE annual Great Yarmouth Schools Football Association seven-a-side tournament took place last Saturday at Woodlands Primary School. Six schools from the association participated to a very high standard in fine conditions.

The event was well supported by parents and friends, who were treated to some tense moments and exciting play.

Wroughton, Martham and first-time participants Hemsby all tied on equal points after the round robin league. Cliff Park narrowly missed out on second place, but the top two teams, Caister and Woodlands were statistically exactly level.

A play-off final was required. This again turned out to be a tense match that was a draw, so the tournament had to be concluded by penalties, and it was Woodlands who went on to win 3-1 and pick up the trophy.

Woodlands go through to play in the county final of this English Schools national event, along with the girls' team who won the Great Yarmouth event last month.

The trophies were presented by the association secretary Graham Gibbons.
