Bradwell shot putter Sophie McKinna made an excellent start to the 2010 season competing at the Southern England Indoor Championships at Lea Valley in London.
The U17 championship record of 12.39m was set in 1994 and the teenager broke this with her first throw of 12.79m.
Her last throw of the competition was 13.18m which smashed the record again, produced a new county record and placed Sophie at No 1 in her age group in the UK.
Lynn Grove High School pupil Sophie has received funding from the Norfolk Sports and Cultural Foundation, which supports young talented athletes and artists on the road to the 2012 London Olympics.
