Shrublands U14 became the first-ever team from Shrublands JFC to win a county cup final when they defeated Norfolk & Suffolk Youth League rivals Gorleston Rangers 4-0 at Trafford Park, Wroxham. Connor Deeks gave Shrublands an early lead when, in the 14th minute, he fired home a volley from 35 yards into the top right corner of the Rangers’ goal. A minute before half-time Gorleston Rangers almost levelled, when neat footwork saw their striker find space in the box only to see his effort trickle past a post. It took just four minutes of second-half play before Shrublands doubled their lead, when Deeks’ drilled cross from the left was met by a powerful header from Mauro Cardoso. Shrublands continued to push for goals and Rangers hit them on the counter with an effort which drifted narrowly wide. In the 43rd minute a long ball up to Shrublands’ centre-forward Noel Hubbard was cleverly flicked on and man-of-the-match Ben Mann out-muscled the last remaining defender before coolly slotting under the keeper. With 13 minutes to play it was all over. The Rangers keeper made a fantastic diving save from Deeks’ free-kick and parried the ball wide, only to see Hubbard cut the ball back for Cardoso to drill home his second goal and secure a momentous victory for Shrublands.
