Great Yarmouth Swimming Club took its youth team to Basildon, Essex, to compete in the British Gas ASA East Region Youth Championships, accompanied by head coach Garry Jarvis.

The swimmers enjoyed the facilities in the brand new 50-metre pool and competed in style bringing home two silver medals.

This was Charlie Smith’s first regionals and she qualified for two events both of which she achieved long course personal bests. in the 50 Fly she swam 33.46 and did the 50 Breaststroke in 38.34.

Her brother Tom qualified for the 50 fly and swam it in an amazing long course time of 29.06. Daniel had a good swim in the 100 metres breaststroke going into the race seeded 19th and coming 9th in a time of 1.13.62. Nathan claimed his first silver medal of the competition in the 100 metres breaststroke in a time of 1.08.84. The last session of the weekend saw an exciting battle of the Henderson brothers fighting for medals, one in the 15/16 years 50m breaststroke final and the other in the O17 50m breaststroke final. Unfortunately Daniel just missed out on a medal coming 5th in 32.59 while Nathan claimed his second silver medal of the weekend in a time of 30.57.

Carolyn Henderson, vice-chairperson of the club) who was officiating at the championships thanked the swimmers and the head coach for the way they represented Great Yarmouth over the weekend. It has been many years since Great Yarmouth has featured on the medal table at a youth regional swimming event and the club is very proud.
