Acle gave their best performance of the season in defeating visitors from south of the border Brandon Town, who sat just above United in the Anglian Combination Premier Division table prior to the game at Bridewell Lane.

Supporters widely acclaimed the display as the best showing from an Acle side since the heady days of the Stimpson era a decade ago.

It sees Acle fifth in the league, 11 points off leaders North walsham with three games in hand in a title race with any one of seven teams

in with a chance of winning the Sterry Cup.

United got off to an excellent start and continually got in behind the visiting defenders without being able to find the finishing touch. Then in the 36th minute Daniel Foreman pounced in the penalty area after Hovell had failed to hang onto a pin-point Olly Harrison centre and steered the ball home for the opening goal.

Two goals in as many minutes had the supporters applauding an excellent performance from

Acle as they swept into an unassailable lead.

Foreman collected the ball wide on the right wing, cut inside Field and Leach, and let fly with a tremendous curling drive from 20 yards that hit the net before the keeper could move.

Acle's third came when John Curtis fastened onto a Nobbs ball and hammered past the helpless Hovell in the visitors' goal.

The second half brought more of the same as Acle continued to display their one-touch style that has become a part of their game. After 67 minutes, unselfish play from Nathan Thompson was rewarded when he finished off a good move involving Nobbs and Foreman.

Within a minute Acle had scored their fifth. A free-kick taken by Ben Morganfound Curtis who headed the ball into the empty net.

After 70 minutes Thompson again turned provider as he outpaced Birch and Hume and sent a cross into the path of Curtis, who slid the ball into the empty net with Hovell in no-man's land and his defenders at sixes and sevens.

They were completely outplayed by the exciting Acle side who gave their followers so much to enthuse over with their performance against one of the top sides in the league.

Saturday sees Acle at Blofield, who are 13 points off the top team but with five games in hand (ko 2pm).
