Great Yarmouth and District Football League

The league’s prestigious cup competition the Wiltshire cup saw quarter-finals played. The holders Catfield had what looked a tough tie against Bohemians who had a good start so far to life in Division One. But Catfield strolled into the semi-finals with a 9-0 win which included six for the prolific Pillar.

MK United joined them as they defeated 10-man Carpathians 7-1 at Ormesby with a hat-trick for Dave Pasco, two for Mark Higgins and one each for Brandan Ingram and Roy Coe.

Albion also made it through to the semi-finals with a 6-3 win over GY International. Albion, last season’s finalists, will be hoping to get back to the Wellesley and avenge last season’s agonising defeat.

Yarmouth United and Feathers met on the Beaconsfield. After 120 minutes the sides could not be split as the score finished 3-3. The replay will be played on March 12 at 2.30pm on Mill Lane.

The draw took place Tuesday night at the committee meeting for the semi-finals which will take place the weekends April 2 and 9. To view the draw visit the league’s website.

In Group Two of the HA Holmes Division One League Cup, Peelers won 4-2 against Norfolk n Chance.

Peelers have shown some kind of a revival as late and will be looking to take this into their next match at home to Feathers, which will also see a league first. The match will be the first match staged in the league to be played on the brand new 3G surface at Lynn Grove.

In the Burgess Cup, Caister CC inflicted a first defeat on Belton in the competition,3-1. Belton have now finished their group matches and although they sit top there is a very real possibility of them not qualifying for the semi-finals. However, there are the only club in the league still in the hunt for four trophies.

Caister’s win means a point against Prostar Windows should see them through.

In Group Two, Caister Youth took a massive stride towards the semi-finals with a 1-1 draw against MK United Reserves. Although Caister Youth now look nailed-on for the semi-finals, the rest of the group is wide open.

In Division Two, Wellington, who under new manager Steve Cuff, are now picking up points as they dented Arches’ promotion push with a 2-2 on the Beaco.

Meanwhile, South Yarmouth are into the promotion picture with a 5-1 win over Martham A. The two sides meet again this week where a win for the visitors could see them go second.
