Retroskate Artistic Roller Skating Club: Members competed at the Tyne Tees annual gala held in Durham for the first time since the club formed in June 2010 and returned with an impressive total of 24 medals. Just 11 skaters of the large club competed in free, figures, dance, novelty free and club show. Lucy Tuddenham laid down a strong set of figures, earning her a first place.
Harlee Wicks had a successful weekend, winning gold in the under-10 novelty free event and silver in his first dance event, six years and under.
Danielle Tuddenham skated into second place in the free programme event and Gemma Cook took third place.
Both girls also had a successful weekend, winning a bronze medal each in the novice duo dance event, their first time competing in a duo event, which they both really enjoyed.
Evie Read, who has been battling a long-term injury, earned herself a well-deserved gold in the novelty free and Emily Deag skated a lovely novelty programme gaining her a bronze, both in 10 years and above. Dulcie Read skated two lovely dances winning her a bronze. It was her first time competing in a dance category.
All 11 skaters – Katie Virgo, Chelsie Virgo, Stella Mavroudis, Louisa Mavroudis, Dulcie Read, Evie Read, Harlee Wicks, Danielle Tuddenham, Lucy Tuddenham, Gemma Cook and Emily Deag were joined by the young aspiring skaters Fraia Wicks (three), Christian Mavroudis and Solomon Read (both four) for the last event of the weekend, the club show event.
The skaters pulled it together brilliantly, finishing the enjoyable weekend on a high by winning gold for all 15 skaters.
The next gala the club is now looking forward to is Maidstone in September. A big well done went to all skaters and thanks went to all parents and supporters of the club for their on-going hard work.
