SLAM dunk action will be amongst the sporting excitement at this week's Gorleston Cliff Top Festival.

Basketball players Patrick Manifold and James Borg organised Saturday's tournament to inspire others to take up the game.

The two friends put together the Gala Basketball Trophy competition and children's coaching session as part of the festival sports day.

It is one of several sports taster sessions on offer along with beach volleyball, gymnastics, karate and football.

Places are still available for teams to take part in the three-a-side games by registering online at www.clifftopbasketball.yolasite.com.

A children's coaching session starts 11.30am, tournament registration at noon, with games from 12.30pm to 4pm.

Manifold, who grew up in Gorleston, is set to take up a prestigious sports scholarship in the USA next month.

The former Kings Lynn Fury player will be representing University of Maine in the hugely competitive American College League.

Manifold only started playing the sport when he was a pupil at Notre Dame High School in Norwich

He said: “We did not get many opportunities to play when we were younger and want to put something back and encourage more people to take up the sport.

“The original idea was just to put on one game, but we wanted to take it on and make it a big event.”
