Awards were made to Norfolk’s outstanding athletes of 2010 at the annual meeting held at Sportspark in Norwich when pride of place went to Sophie Mckinna of Great Yarmouth who topped the national rankings in the under-17 shot putt by a huge margin.

As well as setting a record in the English Schools championships, she won the schools international match in Glasgow and finished fifth in the World Youth Games in Singapore.

The senior men’s award went to Mitch Goose. The USA-based athlete represented Great Britain in the European cross country championships in Portugal this month.

The under-15 field event award went to Oliver Bradfield, who tops the under 15 national rankings in the javelin and who also set an English Schools record in Birmingham.

The senior women’s track award was won by another USA-based athlete Barbara Parker, who represented Great Britain in the steeplechase at the European championshps in Barcelona.

Another javelin thrower, Laura McDonald, was awarded the Chairman’s Trophy for her outstanding throwing in the under-17 age group.

Callum Brown, winner of the Schools International match in Glasgow, topped the rankings in the under-17 men’s hammer.

Aaron Pitt broke the 50secs barrier in the 400m event and won the English Schools title in the under-15 age group.

This has been another outstanding year for Norfolk athletics and the season starts again with the Norfolk cross-country championships at Colney Lane, Norwich, on January 9.

U15 boys’ track: Aaron Pitt, 49.99 secs 400m, 2nd ranked in UK, 1st English schools, 1st AAA under-15 championships.

U20 women’s track: Iona Lake, 800m 2m 12.4, 21st UK, 1500m, 4mins 34.15 secs, 24th UK, 11th English Schools 1500m and 10th English Schools cross country.

U20 women’s field: Jenna Cannell 46m 32 hammer throw, 15th ranked junior and 5th English Schools.

U20 men’s track: James Senior, six English Schools cross countries and six English Schools track championships. Schools international for both cross country and track. Winner of 800m and 1500m at English schools 800m.

U20 men’s field: James McLachlan, long jump 7m 47, 1st English schools, 1st Scottish under 20 and 2nd Scottish senior championship.

Senior women’s track: Barbara Parker, represented GB in steeplechase at European championships in Barcelona.

Senior men’s track: Mitch Goose, represented GB in European under 23 cross-country championships last weekend. 1500m, 3mins 46.0 secs, 25th ranked UK over 5000m.

Senior men’s field: Sam Coe, hammer 66m07 and 4th in under 23 rankings; Francis Baker, 12th ranked UK decathlon and new Norfolk record of 7119 points.

President’s Trophy: Glynn Long – always there to set out equipment for meetings.

Chairman’s Trophy: Laura McDonald, under-17 javelin 47m 52, 2nd English Schools, 2nd Schools international, 2nd UK Schools Games.

Development: Jo Isbill, difficult year but has coached a developing group of athletes at Ryston.

Officials: Christine Baker, senior official at national level, Crystal Palace Grand Prix.
