Sophie Mckinna of Great Yarmouth & District Athletics Club had a fantastic start to the 2013 season in Austria last week.

She was representing England at senior level for the first time in the shot-put.

Sophie finished second with a new personal best of 16.38 metres and was only beaten by the current world number one Christina Schwanitz from Germany.

Sophie’s throw was a British Junior Indoor record – the previous record had stood for 29 years.

This weekend Sophie is competing at the UK Indoor Trials and European Trials in Sheffield, starting the competition as overall number one in the UK rankings.
