East Norfolk Sixth Form College has won the coveted Clifford Dixon Trophy for a sixth successive year.

This prestigious trophy is awarded to the East of England Champions based on the results of 36 competitions in 14 different sports, plus performances in the national finals. East Norfolk Sixth Form College was the only college to score in every one of these competitions.

The local College amassed a total of 241 points over the season. This was 25 points more than second place Hills Road in Cambridgeshire, with SEEVIC from Benfleet in third and Colchester Sixth Form College in fourth place. There are 35 colleges in the Eastern region, with just nine of them being sixth form colleges. On top of this East Norfolk managed to amass more points than all the colleges in Norfolk combined and 176 points more than the nearest college Easton.

Head of PE, Steve Mooney said: “It’s a great achievement to win this trophy once but to do it six times in a row shows the commitment the college, staff and students have to providing sport at East Norfolk.’

It is still possible to apply to join the College for this September: download an application form from www.eastnorfolk.ac.uk

East Norfolk Men’s football first team finished the season in spectacular style with one of the most successful football years at the college.

As well as winning the Double of the British Colleges East of England league and cup competition. They also progressed to the last four colleges in the national cup with over 350 teams entering the competition.

They narrowly lost 1-0 to a well-organised Brocknhurst Academy side in extra time of the semi-final. Several players within the squad have progressed to semi-professional clubs locally and experienced both county and British colleges’ representative football.

First team coach, Gary Roper said: “It has been a real pleasure this year to work with a very talented and committed side and to see them rewarded for their hard work and dedication both on the pitch and training ground throughout the season.

They have developed as a team and individually from numerous opportunities and once in a lifetime experiences from traveling the country in high pressure cup games, to match preparation sessions from former professionals Gary Holt and Jeremy Goss.”

Thanks also go to Laurie Poulson and Daphne King for their provision and promotion of sport at the college and Jay Jay at the Beach Caf for his continued sponsorship and support.
