The Sportshall Athletics for the Great Yarmouth Primaries drew to a close last week with the Year 4 finals.

Held at Oriel High School, they involved the four winning schools from the local heats held throughout the spring term, with Cliff Park Park Junior also in attendance.

Sportshall Athletics involves foam javelins, speed bounce and standing long jump amongst the six field events, with the event concluding with 10 races, including relays and hurdles.

Pupils have been training at Woodlands for the event for the past two months and have shown great dedication and commitment, whilst achieving a high quality competition standard.

The Year 4 final saw Hillside, Herman, Cliff Park Ormesby and Woodlands compete in an exciting but at times tense atmosphere, with pupils picking up points for each events ranging from 1-10. Ormesby must be congratulated for their efforts in the field events which showcased some real athletics talent.

It was the races section of the evening that saw Woodlands excel, particularly the boys' team who were unbeaten. Woodlands went

on to win the competition by 53 points, a large margin considering the low scoring system.

Pupils received a certificate and have been encouraged to further their talents at the Great Yarmouth Athletics Club.

This has been an extremely exciting series of nights, featuring some very good young athletes at the host high schools.

Thanks go to John Pamplin and representatives of Great Yarmouth Athletics Club.

Winners are pictured with their certificates.
