Sunday league hard hit

DANGEROUSLY hard grounds caused by the lack of rain has forced a blanket ban on the use of all Great Yarmouth Borough Council pitches. That means the Aston Berry Great Yarmouth Sunday League has postponed their entire programme scheduled for this weekend.

At the Sunday league's committee meeting on Tuesday, the league backed the council decision.

In last Sunday's action, El Sol made it three wins from three as they recorded a quick double against Hemsby 4-1 to lead the first division on nine points.

Camden Tavern's 5-0 rout against Sunningdale left the boys from Ormesby rooted to the bottom with three league defeats. Nothing Special lost a tight game 3-2 against Arches.

There were goals galore in the second division as Belton United ran out 4-3 winners against Caesar's Bar whilst Rollesby beat Hemsby FC by the same score.

Windmill crushed Camden Tavern Reserves 10-0 to make it 25 goals scored in their three games so far.

In the third division, Memphis Belton were beaten for the first time as they lost 5-2 to Star and Garter who now top the division. Crown Stores have made a fine start, a 3-1 win against Venture Albion maintaining their 100 per cent record whilst Rumbold Arms ran out 4-0 winners against Sun FC.

A thrilling game at Ormesby saw Carpathians defeat Mariner's Compass 4-2.

This week was to have seen the first games of the division league cups take place.

Division Three: Memphis Belton 2, Star and Garter 5; Carpathians 4, Mariner's Compass 2; Crown Stores 3, Venture Albion 1; Rumbold Arms 4, Sun FC 0.
