Aston Berry Great Yarmouth Sunday Football League

The league’s main cup competitions took centre stage this week with the Knock-Out Cup at the quarter-finals stage and the Plate seeing the first round of games as the teams whittle down to eight.

Starting in the KO Cup, holders Windmill faced El Sol in the tie of the round, and the game lived up to its billing as Windmill won through 4-2.

They will be joined in the semi-finals by Camden Tavern who went nap at second division Martham, cruising to a 5-0 win.

Rollesby’s fine season continued as they also reached the last four after defeating Sun FC 6-0. Making up the quartet are Acle Wanderers who recorded a fine 3-1 win at Gorleston Albion.

In the Plate, Yarmouth White Sox hit the goal trail, running out 22-2 winners at Mariners Compass.

Great Yarmouth Sunday, who many consider favourites for the competition, had to work hard for their quarter-final place, eventually running out 4-2 winners over Camden Tavern Reserves.

Hemsby FC had a comfortable 5-2 win at Leisureland to book their place whilst Lichfield Arms netted the only goal in their tie with Gorleston Albion Reserves.

The final tie needed extra-time as Bohemians defeated first division Star & Garter 3-2.

There was one league fixture played which resulted in a 6-1 win for Venture Albion against Carpathians in the second division.

Clubs are reminded that the scores should be phoned through by the home team to Glyn Gray by no later than 6pm on the day of the match. Failure to do so will result in a fine of 25 as per rule 11b in the handbook. Glyn can be contacted on 01493 651261 or 07504 991058.

Also, all clubs have to submit a result card to registrations secretary Steve Bishop for any competitive match they play by the Wednesday following the game. Failure to do so will result in a fine of 20.

The fines and rules are clearly stated in the hand book and already this season we have had to issue several fines for clubs not adhering to the requirements of running a side within this league.
