The Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League’s final under-7s Futsal Sunday included not only some great matches complete with spectacular goals but also an UEFA European League Championship.
After completing the first 15 matches of the morning teams split into two leagues and changed the names of Beccles Town Hornets and Wasps, Acle United, Ormesby Lads Tigers, Martham and Caister Roma to become Gibraltar, Wales, San Marino, Faroe Isles, Northern Ireland and Andorra,
So after a quick geography lesson the Futsal restarted. Matches were as before and the same as the previous week they were all very closely contested and again many ended all square. Eventually after another 12 matches two teams, Caister Roma playing as Wales and Martham playing as the Faroe Islands, were left, and even after playing a longer game the teams could be separated.
League sponsors Macron supplied a match ball to be presented to the final team and Phil Myhill, secretary of Ormesby Lads completed the honours.
The next two Sundays we have Futsal at under-8s and again fun events will be included in this completely new experience. Such is the demand this event has been full for many weeks in advance of the 10am meet for a 10.15am start at the Caister High School Sports Hall.
The season now moves into cup semi-final time with age groups under 16, 15 and 14 booking places in their cup finals at Emerald Park later in the season.
The under-16s final already looks an absolute cracker as the Phoenix of Gorleston Rangers won 4-0 at home over Long Stratton and they will meet the Aces of Kirkley and Pakefield who returned home 4-1 winners at Waveney Cougars and a great final is very much anticipated from both these very fine football playing teams.
A sole strike from the Gorleston player was enough to see them return home with a 1-0 away win at the Alleycats of Kirkley and Pakefield in the under-15s semi-final. Both teams battled hard and put in maximum effort and the thrills and sometime spills were enjoyed by the watching crowd.
Gorleston will meet Great Yarmouth Town in the final after inflicting a first defeat of the season on the Hornets of Beccles Town in a 2-0 home win to set up a local derby final.
Hemsby Hornets certainly remembered to pack their shooting boots in the under-14s semi-finals as both forwards grabbed seven goals in an 18-1 win over the Royals of Kirkley and Pakefield.
In the other semi-final the Hurricanes gained revenge over league title rivals Caister Roma Centurions with a 3-1 home win to meet the free-scoring Hemsby in the final.
Cup action will again dominate next Sunday as we have several semi-finals taking place.
At under-13s level there is Gorleston Rangers Ospreys meeting the Lions of Waveney, while in the other semi-final Gorleston Rangers Falcons challenge the Hornets of Beccles Town.
Under-12s semi-finals will also be taking place as Gorleston look to join their older team in the finals as they host the Predators of Mutford and Wrentham, while in the other semi-final the Comets of Kirkley and Pakefield play host to Harleston. All semi-finals kick off at 2pm.
The Norfolk and Suffolk Youth League welcomed its newest team last Sunday when the Lads of Bungay Town hosted and played their first under-7s match against the Grasshoppers of Loddon.
Spaces are still available for any new teams at under-7, 8, 9 or 10 age groups wanting to join or split their existing squad into two teams.
