Swimmers earn promotion

On Saturday at Lowestoft in the Suffolk League, Great Yarmouth Swimming Club A won an exciting gala to win the league title and promotion to Division One.

On Saturday at Lowestoft in the Suffolk League, Great Yarmouth Swimming Club A won an exciting gala to win the league title and promotion to Division One.

Result: Great Yarmouth A 183, Sudbury 174, Lowetoft/OB 140, Deban 124, Hadleigh 114, Leiston 109.

The U10 saw a second place fly from Loretta Askew and two thirds from Danielle Page, freestyle and breaststroke.

Third places in the U11 came from Adelaide Loveland freestyle and Laura Loveland breaststroke. Ellie Holden second in freestyle tried hard for the girls' first win, but this did not come until Olivia Smith with a superb fly swim. Second places from Kelly Pywell in a time faster than her brother's, and from Zoe Prettyman helped to push the points along. Good support swims came from Paige Lovage.

The boys took two early second places from Alexander Goff freestyle and Jake Honey fly. The U11 boys came in with two first places from James Walker backstroke and Isaac Kirby fly. Jack Utting led from the start for two first places in the U12 backstroke and fly, but Declan Scott had to settle for second in the breaststroke. The U13 boys sealed a good win for the club with first places from Connor Webster backstroke, Keelan Pyewell breaststroke, and Daiel Henderson fly.

The B team at Sudbury finished third which was also their final position in the third division. Result: First Strokes 206, Felixstowe 190, Great Yarmouth 171, Lowetoft/ OB 135, Deben 100, Lowestoft/ OB 87.

The gala started with third places from Ellie Newman and Bethany Burwood, freestyle and breaststroke, and continued with a second from Katherine Turton breaststroke. Both Daisy Parker and Rebecca Spry had to be content with second places for the U12 freestyle and breaststroke, as did Catherine Lee and Kayleigh Applegate for the U13.

The boys U10 started off well with Jack Colby determined to win the backstroke, and George Yussuff followed with two fine wins U11 backstroke and breaststroke. Joshua Colk at last amongst the places with a second in fly. Ryan Driver with a second place and Andrew Hacon with a third U12 added to the points.

The gala finished with a excellent win for Lawrence King backstroke, and a third for Oscar Moore fly. Thanks to Joshua Clirton, Adam Brewin and Lauren Cotton.
