On Saturday in the second round of the Suffolk Winter League at Stowmarket, Great Yarmouth Swimming Club were clear winners with 188 points, Stowmarket 169, Sudbury 167, Saxons 164 and Deben 152.

Isaac Kirby gave the club a good start with two first places fly and freestyle, 11 seconds, and seven seconds in front of the second-placed swimmer

over 50m.

Jack Utting left the opposition way behind, winning his three races of fly, backstroke and freestyle.

Tom Smith got a first in fly and a second place in freestyle. Daniel Henderson, who was pushed hard by the Deben swimmer, knocked two seconds off his PB in winning the breaststroke. Try as he might, Adam Brewin could not catch the Stowmarket swimmer, but he recorded a new best time by two seconds in the breaststroke.

For the girls, Charlie Smith was in fine form, winning the breaststroke and fly with two well-controlled swims. Megan Newman at last got a first place in the backstroke, moving to the front over the last length. Zoe Prettyman fought off the rest of the field to win the breaststroke.

Bethany Burwood knocked five seconds off her PB but had to be content with second place in the 50m breaststroke as did Ellie Holden in the fly

Kelly Pyewell, Olivier Smith and Grace Hubbard never gave up but could not catch the first-placed swimmers in tight races.

The gala ended with the junior relay team of Patrick Manning. Isaac Kirby, Jack Utting, Adam Brewin and Declan Scott winning both the medley and freestyle events.

Good support swimming came from Loretta Askew, Adelaide Loveland, Laura Loveland, Natasha Pestka, Daniel Evans, Andrew Moore and Brandon Tennant.

The postal swim is at Great Yarmouth High School on Saturday at 2pm.
