On Saturday at Thetford, Great Yarmouth swam in the first round of the National Swimming League and finished third behind St Ives and Lincoln, followed by Thetford and Beccles.

From fifth position, determined swimming and good relay results pushed Yarmouth up to third.

First places came from Isaac Kirby (breaststroke and fly) and Jack Utting (freestyle and backstroke). Olivier Smith and Kelly Pyewell added another 12 points with first places and Tom Smith got close to breaking a minute with a 1.01 in winning the 100m freestyle. Brandon Tennant showed considerable improvement with his second place in the 100m breaststroke with a PB. Lawrence King continues to chip away at his time, coming second in the 100m backstroke.

The fast improving Katherine Turton came second in the 11/u breaststroke, along with James Walker (backstroke), who now regularly gets amongst the top places. The open girls races produced fast times, but valuable points were gained with second places from Grace Hubbard (freestyle), Charlie Smith (backstroke) and Shanise Webster (breaststroke).

Contributing to the overall score with third places were Adelaide Loveland, Ellie Holden, Zoe Prettyman, Alexander Goff and Daniel Henderson. Fourth places went to Loretta Askew, Emily Pestka, Jack Ollington, and Daniel Buck and fifth places to Natasha Pestka, Daniel Evans and Andrew Moore.

This result should give the club a good draw in the second round.
