Broadland Sports Club held their first table tennis competition run by coach Ernie George.

The turnout was good, as was the sporting play with four of the players playing for Broadland in this season’s Great Yarmouth League.

The over-16 semi finals saw Alex Harley, winner of group two, beat the runner-up of group one, David Sursham, 11-7, 11-9. Dom Cutter, winner of group one, met the runner up of group two, Gilbert Lamb. This game went the distance with Gilbert winning 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.

In the final Gilbert found the experience of Alex a little to much with Alex winning 11-5, 11-4, 11-3. The junior final was won by Philip Hayes who beat Daniel Copsey 11-7, 11-4, 12-10.

Trophies were presented by club owner Tony Henden who thanked everyone for an exciting and fun evening.

Hhe felt this was just the beginning for table tennis at the club and hoped in the future to have more teams representing Broadland in the local leagues. For more information on table tennis at Broadland go to www.broadlandsportsclub.co.uk or ring 01493 369651.
