The first competition of the new Great Yarmouth League season, the Dickie Moore Cup, was played at Northgate and again attracted a maximum entry with players on the waiting list.

The first competition of the new Great Yarmouth League season, the Dickie Moore Cup, was played at Northgate and again attracted a maximum entry with players on the waiting list.

Four groups were formed with 85 games to complete.

Group A: As expected the two first division players qualified with the main surprise being the defeat of Wally Ladmore by the much improved Martin Clarke. Third place was taken by John Smith followed by Rhys Calder, Reg Cadmore, Derek Humphries and Jackie Fortescue.

Group B: Again first division players dominated with Eddie Fuller, Paul Wright Jnr and Bob Lamb vying for top place and it was the former who made it with five wins - Paul being runner-up Albert Cadmore, Tyler Harrison and Claire Baxter completed the group.

Group C: The favourite Ernie George came through unbeaten and there was a count-back of points - for and against - when three players won four matches each. Thomas Baxter took the runners -up spot followed by Paul Wright Sen Colin Fortescue, Andrew Lilley, Mike Harvey and Kit Marsden.

Group D: The winner was decided when Ray Lee beat Darren Swann who had to be content with the runner-up position - Simon Rouse and Ashley Marsh recorded three wins each followed by Josh Baxter, Chris Durrant and Aiden Rumsby.

Quarter-finals: Martin Clarke beat Darren Swann 21-15 21-18, Eddie Fuller beat Thomas Baxter 21-19 21-18, Ernie George beat Paul Wright Jnr 21-14 21-18, Wally Ladmore beat Ray Lee 21-12 21-16.

Semi-finals: Ernie beat Eddie 21-9 21-14, “ally beat Martin 21-18 21-13.

An excellent final saw Ernie defeat the defending champion 21-19 21 -14.
