Although only seven players took part in the annual hard-bat table tennis competition at Mill Lane Community Centre, Bradwell, an enjoyable day was had by everyone.

The format of the competition was two sections, with the winner and runner-up from each section playing in the final.

Four of the competitors were from one family, Jackie and Colin Fortescue, daughter Claire Baxter and grandson Thomas Baxter. The draw was at random and saw three of the family, Jackie, Colin and Claire playing in group one, the other player being Adrian Rumsby.

The first match saw Jackie beating Adrian 2-0. Claire managed to take a game off Adrian, losing 2-1. Colin won all his games. Both Jackie and Colin went through to play in the finals.

In group two Thomas Baxter, Brendan McMahon and young Ryan took part. Thomas won all of his games and Ryan beat Brendan 21-16 16-21 21-14.

In the finals Thomas beat his grand-dad in two straight games. The finals saw young Thomas play his grandmother Jackie. Although Thomas won 21-19 21-6 it was an exciting match and had Thomas on the ropes a few times!

Thomas has improved immensely over the last year and is now a Division One player and doing very well.

Jackie also has improved considerably and is playing very well. Her daughter Claire has just joined the table tennis league and enjoying her games. For the very short time she has been playing she has been playing some fine shots.
