Yarmouth Road Runners

On a foggy Sunday two runners from GYRR ran at their respective county cross country championships.

Congratulations go to Tamsin Desborough who continued her recent excellent running form and came 3rd in the ladies under 20 race, dodging sheep and negotiating some tricky hills at the Suffolk County Cross Country Championships in Ickworth Park near Bury St Edmunds. Tamsin now goes on to represent Suffolk at the Inter Counties Cross Country finals at Cofton Park in Birmingham on March 9. Congratulations also go to Andrew Manning who came 4th out of a field of 26 runners in the veteran men’s race at the Norfolk County Cross Country Championships at Barnham Common in Thetford.

Four Great Yarmouth Road Runners took part in the annual Wymondham Athletic Club’s New Year’s Day 10k. 426 runners finished this road race which started in Wymondham and went into the countryside before returning. The weather was bright and sunny, but a little breezy. First of the GYRR back in 6th position was Mark Thompson in 36:13 followed by Sean Jermy in 16th place in 38:06. Ivan Lees ran with his daughter’s boyfriend and came 293rd with a time of 54:18. Peter Spandler finished in 386th place with 63:24.

Mark Thompson collected a trophy for 2nd place in the men’s under 30 age category in the Runners Centre 2012 Grand Prix.
