THE weekend saw the first round of the Norfolk Junior Cup for the first division sides, with four of the league's sides progressing to join one which had a bye.

Albion came back from Norwich with a convincing 8-1 win over Wensum Albion. Scorers were Kristian Gowing, Ricci Lee-Collins, Peter Oldham, Sam Welch and Ben Kikki with a brace each, and an own goal.

Catfield also eased through by 7-1 at Coltishall, despite having a man sent off. Darren Lamb led the scoring with four, plus two for the prolific Chad Pillar and one for Paul Thompson.

Lacon Arms are also through after beating Costessey Crown from Norwich 3-0 on the Beaco.

GY International are also through, after a brace for Diogo Fernandes saw them edge through over Holt Reserves.

MK United, meanwhile, bowed out after having just 11 players. Their brave performance was not enough as they went out 5-2 at home to Hellesdon.

Reedham lost by the odd goal of three at home to Sprowston Wanderers Reserves, while Tramway lost 6-1 at Hemsby and Shrublands went out 7-1 at North Walsham Reserves.

GY Peelers had a bye into round two and they faced Hemsby Reserves in a league match. And despite trailing at half-time, the village side hit back three times in the second half to take the points, a performance to erase the previous week's defeat.

Bohemians' impressive start continued as they took the points away at Caister, with Richard Watts hitting four. Norfolk and Chance edged a tight game at home to Paperclip 4-3, as they warmed up for their game with Ellingham this week in the Primary Cup.

GY United also made it three from three, as they defeated South Yarmouth 4-1, with Ashley Williams grabbing two. Prostar Windows travelled to Gorleston Wanderers and came away with an impressive 4-2 victory, while MK United Reserves won 6-2 away at Martham, despite trailing at half-time, and Carpathians continued their fine start as they won 3-1 away at The Feathers, who are still coming together as a side.

The draw for the second round of the Junior Cup can be heard tonight on Radio Norfolk at 6.30pm.

This week sees first round action in the Norfolk Primary Cup, and once again good luck to all sides. The league must still receive result cards of all matches, even if teams are in county cup action.
